Thank you University of ArkansasCollege of Engineering for the 2024 Early Career Award. The civil engineering department was so foundational to my career, and it was a wonderful night seeing former professors and colleagues again at my alma mater.

When we say you can't make it without materials, we mean all types of materials. From structural steel to semiconductors, materials are everywhere. Prof. Kendra Erk and her team have been studying SAP internal curing agents for the past decade at Purdue. The addition of these water-swollen hydrogel particles helps to fuel the cement curing reaction from inside the concrete, leading to increased strength and durability of concrete mixtures. Seeing test pours moving to field trials is a key step to translating research to development to practice?

Reflecting on my journey, I want to share a personal failure story that shaped my path.During senior high, facing harsh criticism during our thesis defense was deeply humiliating. Graduating without a clear direction, failing an exam, and feeling lost were tough blows. However, embracing resilience, I found a new path at EARIST in Civil Engineering, despite lacking a STEM background.Overcoming insecurities, I led our group to excel in our thesis, earning top honors in our class. From setbacks to success, I've learned that failure isn't the end but a stepping stone to unforeseen opportunities.Embrace resilience and let setbacks guide you to unexpected fulfillment.#Resilience #OvercomingFailure #NewBeginnings

An honor to be part of the ACE Mentor Program of Washington Strategic Planning team to share visions of the future state. Special bonus for me, I got to work with a dear previous colleague, Randy Barber, for an entire day after several years of not seeing each other. We even got to share the message of LOVE in LEAP in “Doing What You Love In Service Of Those Who Love What You Do”. Yes,Steve Farber, we are still LEAPing. #mentoringprogram #mentorship #extremeleadership #youthmentorship
