For 150 years, textiles have been stitched into the story of #GreenvilleSC. Thanks to KM Fabrics, that tradition won't unravel anytime soon. This producer of fine woven velvets for performing arts venues has operated in Greenville since 1979, and they recently announced a $15 million investment for a new headquarters. KM will leave their current home in West Greenville for 105 Wood St. There, the company plans to renovate and expand the building existing there into a 200,000 square-foot facility.“Greenville offers a unique blend of textile heritage, a skilled workforce, and a supportive business environment, making it an ideal location for KM Fabrics to make a significant investment in our company and future," says CEO Paul Tantillo. "Greenville’s vibrant community, exceptional quality of life, and strategic economic initiatives make Greenville a special place to live and work. KM Fabrics is excited to continue to call Greenville our home!"Tantillo says the move will help them add to their existing workforce of 100 people.

When The Economist visited #GreenvilleSC the reporter had a wish list of founders to interview. This guy ⬇️ John Barnett, serial app creator (um, have you heard of Boomerang?), and the wizard behind the new AI startup Supermoon was at the top of the list. (Full transparency: it was a tie for #1 with Incora Health) Barnett, who was at a conference in Miami at the time, flew home to show off his new hometown in person. He took U.S. Economics Editor @Simon Rabinovitch to his favorite spots, The Village of West Greenville, Methodical Coffee, The Commons at Unity Park and the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail.Barnett, an alum of Meta, Instagram and Twitter, came to Greenville during the Pandemic and didn't want to leave. Here's one of our favorite sections of the article that features Barnett and why Greenville has been essential to his success."In Silicon Valley, Mr. Barnett says his team might have done formal research sessions in rooms with one-sided mirrors to watch users play around with the app. In Greenville, the process was more organic. He knew from local businesses that they were struggling to stay on top of their inboxes, so he asked them to try the tool out. 'It’s so easy just to connect with folks. It is like a testbed for research." he says."#StartupGVL, Founders do Thrive Here.

In #GreenvilleSC, we believe in everyone getting a shot at their entrepreneurial dreams. That's why we are still buzzing about Village Launch celebrating its 10th anniversary last week and the graduation of Business Entrepreneur Academy cohorts 25 and 26. Over the past decade, Village Launch has now graduated over 200 women and minority entrepreneurs?Mrs. Carla Harris, author and senior client advisor at Morgan Stanley, served as the evening's keynote and shared some wise and encouraging words with the 24 founders honored at Long Branch Baptist Church: aim high, play big, and don't be afraid to fail. "Failure always brings you a gift, and that gift is experience," she said. We think you only fail if you stop trying, and here in #GreenvilleSC we will never stop trying to make this the best place to live and do business. Congrats, graduates!

We love seeing our founders in the spotlight. We love showing off our beautiful city. We love being featured in international magazines, especially when the article combines our first two passions.#GreenvilleSC and the #StartupGVL ecosystem are prominently featured in this week's The Economist. Our friends at Incora Health, Supermoon and Village Launch are profiled in "America is in the Midst of an Extraordinary Startup Boom: How the Country Revived its Go-Getting Spirit," saying "In the past few years, Greenville's livability has been a selling-point, as remote work has taken off."Additional thanks to the The Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Furman University, NextGEN and City of Greenville, South Carolina Mayor Knox White for taking time to host U.S. Economic Editor Simon Rabinovitch, talk about our ecosystem, and show him some our favorite places like Falls Park, Unity Park, the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail and The Commons.
