SPARTANBURG — The name of Spartanburg’s minor league baseball team will soon be unveiled as more opportunities open for fans to reserve seats.

The Texas Rangers-affiliated team will unveil its name May 11 at a block party on Daniel Morgan Avenue near the site of the ballpark, Fifth Third Park. A time has not been announced.

Entrance will be free to the event with live music and food trucks. After the name is revealed, fans can buy merchandise and enjoy fireworks.

“Everyone can get out of their houses and come downtown and enjoy each other,” said the team’s general manager, Tyson Jeffers, at an April 10 meeting at the Middle Tyger Community Center in Lyman. “Hopefully buy a T-shirt and a hat when you're there too.”

Fans mayalready place deposits on suite and club seats at the team’s website. Deposits for lower-level seating will also become available starting next week.

The suitesare enclosed private spaces and can be leased for a five-year, seven-year or 10-year term. The deposit is $500 to reserve a full-season suite for purchase, which Jeffers said would cost around $30,000 to $40,000 per year.

It is a $100 deposit to reserve a full-season club box for purchase. They include all-inclusive food and non-alcoholic drinks and start as low as $41.67, according to the website. They are sold in one, three or five-year terms.

As the year progresses, group tickets will also become available, and single-game tickets will be sold in 2025 ahead of minor league baseball’s opening day in the spring.

The most expensive season tickets, right behind home plate in the center of the lower bowl, will not exceed $1,000. Seats will be cheaper as they move away into the outfield where they would cost around $400 to $500.

Jeffers said the aim is for the crowd to be made up of a diverse group, from holders of season tickets, which ensures access to all 66 home games, to single-game ticket holders.

“Our goal is always to make sure that we have a good balance of all of those different types of fans,” Jeffers said. “That allows us to make sure that when you're coming to the ballpark, you're not seeing a bunch of empty seats.”

If those prices seem steep, don't worry, you can still watch the game from the cheap seats. They will be along the berm, a grass hill near the stadium’s outfield, where around 500 fans can sit on the grass for around $5 per game.

There will also be options to reserve seats for multiple games but for fewer than all 66, such as around 12 games.

Construction of the ballpark is also on schedule and will be ready to open next April, according to Jeffers.

“I won’t be here in April if we don’t open,” Jeffers said.

He also emphasized the want for the around 5,000-person capacity ballpark to be open year-round for community events such as concerts or comedy shows on the field or a gala in the club.

“Our goal is to make sure that this ballpark is activated, and every time you drive by, you expect there to be something going on,” he said. “That's what's going to bring the life back to downtown Spartanburg and keep people coming into Spartanburg County.”
