tabled until the May meeting Bill Ress reported that he and Mr Wittmer had enjoyed a most interesting visit to the home of Mrs Emma Phillips who showed them a part of the large collection of material on old Tell City which she has or) file Mrs Phillips ex ilained that she could not accept the responsibility of chairman of the Historical Committee but that she will work with the committee and do everything possible to aid in the centennial plans but she re quests that all of her material re main in her hands Mrs Phillips was asked to name people who would be valuable as members of the Historical Committee and the following names are her sugges tions: Charles Schreiber Bert enn Mrs Ed Harrer Mrs Willa Mae Niemczyk and Mrs Edgar Schergens All were approved by the General Committee A chair man yill be named later and more names may be added The Gener al Committee hopes that Mrs Phil lips will accept the honorary title of Official Historian to the Centen nial because no other person can approach her knowledge of Tell history Mr Schergens showed two sketches submitted for considera tion as insignia for the centennial The artist jvill send other drawings later Pastor Schroeder offered to bring sketches of his own to the next meeting and Johnny Protsman will do the same Mr Clemens will ask Arlin McRae high school art instructor to sketch his ideas of an appropriate centennial motif The committee hopes to choose one drawing from those submitted to be used as the official insignia A motion was made by rank Clemens and seconded by Ed Schergensthat local organizations be encouraged to sponsor activities4 as a part of the centennial celebra tion but that all such activities be cleared and approved by the Gen eral Committee to avoid conflict and confusion The Committee has decided against making a beard growing contest one of its func tions but any group wishing to d0 so may sponsor this or any other activity by seeking clearance from the General Committee The Chair man explained that in time there will be a committee set up to schedule and coordinate ail events held during the period of celebra tion Types of costumes were discuss ed and it was suggested that be cause each canton or district in Switzerland uses a different cos tume and headdress the various organizations in our community might adopt one oLthese and en courage committees to be activated in the near future will be a committee bn Music It waf suggested that the Tell City high school band could start now to learn special music for the centen nial The Committee would like for William Tell Overture to become a musical theme for pub lic gatherings in Tell City Another committee might plan a property improvement and city beautifying competition for the centennial year The next regular meeting of the General Committee will be on May 7 at 7:30 pm at the ederal Sav ings and Loan Building The meeting was adjourned by the chairman Ralph Poehlein
